Having grown up in Minnesota, bald eagle sightings aren't really a rare occurance, though the bird is so amazing that it's always fun to see. Anyone here can tell instantly whether a bird is a bald eagle or not because they fly in a very distinct way, and nothing about them is really like any other bird. This is why when I went backpacking in the Boundary Waters I was amazed to see a crazy eagle sighting. The bird took off majestically from a tree and dove to catch a fish, but missed it (a rare occurance in and of itself) and then landed on the water and sat there for about 5 minutes as though it had confused itself with a sea gull. It was most definitely a strange sight.
